2017 Childbirth Preparation and Breastfeeding Classes


Thank you for trusting Providence Hospital for the delivery of your baby. We offer several childbirth preparation classes to help you prepare for this special experience.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Registration fills up quickly, so please register early. We recommend that you register for your classes by your 24th week of pregnancy and complete the classes 4 to 6 weeks before your due date.

All classes are held in Conference Room 1 just off the main hospital lobby by the gift shop. Payment is made at the time of the class, cash (exact change) or check and covers mom and guest/coach.

Prepared Childbirth Class

This 3-week series meets Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 9 p.m. This class, taught by experienced obstetrics nurses, will prepare you and your partner for the birthing process. Perfect for first-time parents, it includes a tour of the Family Birth Center. Cost: $25, includes Mom and one guest.

Childbirth Class Express

This one-day course meets on Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. It is a condensed version of the Prepared Childbirth Class and is ideal for moms needing a refresher course. It is not suited for women desiring a non-medicated delivery. Participants should bring a lunch or be prepared to purchase lunch during the break. Cost: $25, includes Mom and one guest.

Newborn Care Class

This one-night class meets on Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 9 p.m. and prepares new parents to care for their new baby from birth through the first weeks at home. It is an ideal companion to the Prepared Childbirth class and is a good refresher for experienced parents. Cost: $25, includes Mom and one guest.

Super Sibling Class

This fun and interactive Saturday morning class prepares soon-to-be Big Brothers and Big Sisters ages 3-10 for the arrival of a new baby. The two-hour class meets 10 a.m. – noon and includes a tour of the Family Birth Center. Parents are welcome to attend. Cost: $10 per child.

Infant CPR

This class will teach new parents and caregivers of newborns, infants and young children how to perform CPR in an emergency. It meets Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Please note: This class is an orientation to CPR and is not a certification or credentialing course. Cost: $10 per person. Pre-registration is required.

Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding provides countless health and developmental benefits for baby and is good for mom’s health, too. But while breastfeeding is natural, it’s also a learned skill. Led by one of our lactation consultants, this class will help prepare you and your partner for successful breastfeeding and address common concerns of new mothers. It is offered on Monday evenings, 6:30 – 9 p.m. and on Saturday mornings, 9 a.m. – noon. Cost: Free!
