Heart & Vascular

Providence Hospital is the right choice for comprehensive cardiac care. We offer a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for a variety of heart conditions, and a staff of heart experts that includes nearly 50 specially trained cardiologists, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, and cardiac electrophysiologists.

Three cardiac catheterization labs, two cardiac electrophysiology suites and two dedicated heart surgery suites provide a fully-equipped, high tech setting for the thousands of heart procedures performed here each year. In fact, last year we performed about 37,000 types of diagnostic procedures and more than 300 open heart surgeries as well as nearly 6,000 cardiac caths, more than any other hospital in the region.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

For those who have experienced a cardiac event or who live with chronic heart and lung disease, our cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program provides medically-supervised exercise and nutrition training through the recently-refurbished Beth M. Rouse Rehabilitation and Wellness Center conveniently located on the west side of the Providence campus. The program includes cardiopulmonary exercise therapy, health education and emotional support for the patients and their families. The major goal of the program is to restore participants to an active and enjoyable lifestyle while reducing the risk of future cardiac or pulmonary problems and complications. For patient safety, nurses, certified exercise specialists, certified respiratory therapists and a physician oversee the program, and emergency equipment, including a drug cart, oxygen and defibrillator, is on hand if needed.

Caring Hearts Congestive Heart Failure Clinic

Providence Hospital consistently earns “Gold” status in the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Heart Failure program. This award recognizes facilities that achieve at least two years of 85 percent or higher adherence to the programs measures that are demonstrated to improve the quality of patient care and outcomes.

Our Caring Hearts Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Clinic is the foundation of this achievement. A CHF nurse educator visits all hospitalized patients with heart failure daily to make sure they have a primary care physician and their medications. She also secures home health services for those who need them and provides education about CHF.  After discharge, every CHF patient is contacted to make sure they understand and remember what they’ve been told about their follow-up care. They also receive regular phone calls to confirm appointments, make sure they have their medication and simply check to see how they’re feeling. Those with CHF are also encouraged to use the dedicated CHF outpatient clinic as an urgent care center rather than visiting the ER. No appointment is needed for the CHF outpatient clinic.
